Week #29: Acharei Mot: "After the Death"
DAY OF ATONEMENT, WORSHIPPING FALSE GODS, AND SEXUAL SIN:
This is one of the most fascinating and difficult portions of Scripture in all of the readings. The weight and heaviness of sin is meant to be understood, however, atonement is made through the blood of an innocent animal and the peoples' sin is removed from them through the Azazel or scapegoat. The people are also warned specifically about certain forms of idol worship and sexual sin. While there are some difficult passages we encourage parents to read ahead and prepare to discuss some of these challenging topics with their children in a way that is appropriate for them.
